Rep. Foxx Holds Virtual Town Hall Meeting

More than 100 people lined up to ask questions during last night’s virtual town-hall meeting organized by U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, a Republican who represents the 5th Congressional District. Foxx’s press secretary, Aaron Groen, says that hundreds more were probably listening to the telephone conference.
While Foxx fielded questions in her Washington office, people in the Northwest North Carolina district talked to Foxx about such issues as illegal immigration, Social Security and health care. It was the first meeting of its kind for Foxx, who was elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2006. The calls poured in for more than an hour.
All of the callers except one were supportive of Foxx. When the one critic got through, he asked, “Why are there only positive calls?" "Frankly, I expected negative calls,” Foxx responded. Groen said after the teleconference that Foxx was unable to control who got through. The caller went on to say that he was concerned about the Iraq war and how much it was costing.
Foxx said that one of the key roles that Congress must play is to defend the U.S. against foreign threats.“It’s the role of the federal government to provide for defense,” she said. However, Foxx also said that she would like to see more accountability in the money that is spent.
