A Wilkes Community College student tells police her convertible top was cut open and several items taken from the car while she was in class Tuesday. Cassandra Hays, who lives in Boone, parked the car in time for a 9:30 class, and says she returned about 11:45am. The only item taken from inside the car was her purse, which had been tucked behind the passenger seat. Inside it was some cash, a couple of credit cards, a debit card, and her check book. She called the credit card company right away to report the theft, and they told her someone had used the card at a filling station in Yadkinville at 10:44am. Police are checking with authorities there to see if there was a security videotape that might have caught an image of the person using the card.
