This year’s flu season is in full swing with 41 states now reporting widespread illness. Unfortunately, not enough children are getting the flu shot even though health officials recommend that all children 6 months and older get the vaccine. According to a new study by researchers at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, less than 45 percent of children were vaccinated against the flu during a five-year study period. As of the end of December, NC had reported 14 flu related deaths in the state. Diane Bauguess, a nurse with Wilkes County Health Dept, says it's not too late. If you haven't already, get the flu shot. Shots are available for free at the health dept for children and adults. And what should we do in terms of prevention? AIR And Diane says if you think you have the flu, call your doctor. For information on flu shots, prevention, and treatment--call the Wilkes Health Dept at 651-7450
