Officer Shot and Killed in NC

It's another Patrol Officer shooting death; this time in North Carolina. At 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, a state trooper stopped a pickup for a speeding in Columbus County.  The driver of the pickup fired several shots, striking the trooper. Then the driver fled the scene.  Local police attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver fled on foot after his vehicle became disabled at a railroad crossing.  Authorities later located the driver and placed him in custody. The trooper, Kevin K. Conner, an 11-year veteran, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. “The Highway Patrol family is mourning the loss of a hero and will forever be changed by the tragic events that have occurred,” said Colonel Glenn McNeill Jr., commander of the State Highway Patrol.
