With the most recent flu death in North Carolina being last week, the NC Dept of Health reminds you to get vaccinated and to practice good hand-washing.  So far this flu season, 5 in our state have died from the flu virus. The annual flu vaccine is the first and most important step in protecting you and your family from the influenza (flu) virus which is a contagious respiratory illness. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Some people — such as older people, young children and people with certain health conditions — are at high risk for serious flu complications. To avoid catching the flu, get vaccinated each year and practice good hand hygiene. To avoid giving the flu to others, stay home when you are sick.  For more information, call the Wilkes Health Dept.
