County Commissioners, Wilkes School Board, and Wilkes Sheriff's Office believed for safety reasons more Student Resource Officers (SRO's) were needed.  Recently, the Wilkes County School System applied for and received a grant for 2/3 funding (about $67,000) for two new SRO's.  The County provided the 1/3 funding (about $33,000) for the Officers.  Wilkes did have 4, then added 4, and now the grant provides funding for 2 more.  Wilkes Schools will now have 10 Student Resource Officers.  The grant and additional funding was voted on and passed by County Commissioners at their meeting Tuesday night.
