Heavy rains caused flash flooding in Wilkes and across other areas of the state. Wilkes and other portions of western North Carolina had mudslides, landslides, trees downed, and closed roads due to heavy rains and flooding. Since Friday evening, swift water rescue teams have rescued 83 people from flood waters. As of Monday afternoon, about 3,400 power outages were being reported statewide. There were major road closures in Catawba, Franklin, and Wake counties into Monday. DOT crews continue working to quickly to assess damages and repair roads in these areas.
