Several inches of rainfall over the weekend caused a record level of water at W Kerr Scott. The old record high level at W Kerr Scott of 1,061.2 feet above sea level was set in November 1977. Over 7 inches of rain in Wilkes and surrounding areas over the weekend brought the level at the 1,062.52 feet by Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Mountain bike trails, swimming areas, and most other recreational areas along the reservoir had to be closed due to the high water level. Trails will re-open as the water level recedes.
