Wilkes Heath Director Appointed to Public Health Commission

Senator President Pro Tempore Marc Basnight has announced the appointment of the Director of the Wilkes County Department of Health, Beth Lovette, to serve on the North Carolina Public Health Study Commission. The Commission, established in law, is charged to “examine the public health system to determine its effectiveness and efficiency in assuring the delivery of public health services to the citizens of North Carolina."

Lovette has served as Director of the Wilkes Health Department since 2000. She is also a member of the Wilkes Regional Medical Board and is President of the North Carolina Alliance of Public Health Agencies.

On making the appointment, Senator Basnight noted that, “I met Beth Lovette during a recent working session of with local officials in Wilkesboro. I found her insightful especially in addressing the challenges facing a rural health department. I am confident that Beth will serve her county and state well as a member of the Public Health Study Commission.” Basnight was in Wilkes County in early November on a working tour with local Senator Steve Goss.

Chairperson of the Wilkes County Board of Health, Ms. Genia Key, commented that “the Board is pleased that Wilkes County will be well represented on the state level. The Study Commission is an important component of assuring appropriate, adequate local public health services across North Carolina."Among its responsibilities, the Commission is charged to study the availability and accessibility of public health services to all citizens throughout the State
