Just How Did They Do That?

While the theft of two ATVs and several other items from a job site in Wilkes was pretty straightforward, there's one lingering question: how did the thieves move a piece of heavy equipment parked up against a storage shed, when the key to the equipment was not on the site? The theft was reported yesterday morning but could have happened any time in the past week, according to Michael Quickel, who found the theft when he arrived at the site on Vannoy Road. Someone had taken the batteries from all the backhoes and bulldozers at the site and had somehow moved the piece of heavy equipment from in front of the shed. Then the thief cut the chain locking the shed and removed the ATV's. One of them is a six-seat model 2008 Polaris and the other is a 4-seater 2007 Rhino. Each is valued at about 15-thousand dollars. Deputies have not identified any suspects in the case.
