House Fire from Cooking

Local firefighters were called out again yesterday to another house fire in the area.  According to Assistant Fire Marshal Nikki Hamby, the fire initially started in the kitchen.  The homeowner was deep frying some French fries and left the pot unattended on the stove to step outside.  When she realized there was a fire, it was already out of control.  The fire had breached the attic space by the time firefighters arrived, and they had to cut a hole in the roof to put out the blaze.  Champion, Millers Creek, and Wilkesboro were called out to the house fire when it first happened just after 7pm Tuesday.  Then Champion Fire Department was called out two more times early Wednesday morning to extinguish flare ups.  The house was severely damaged from the first fire, and the Red Cross was called to assist the family.  Hamby says the fire is still under investigation.  As 3WC News first reported, Wilkesboro Firefighters were called to a fire Monday night at an
