Summer Survival Kit

School is out for many and summer time fun is beginning.  However, summer time can have it’s down side, too.  After an unusually warm winter, it’s no surprise that summer seems to be arriving early.  All the heat and humidity can be fun but also frustrating and dangerous with the possibility of sunburn and overheating.  And bugs?  Without an extended winter cold snap, there will likely be a lot more insects this summer.  So one way to protect yourself from sunburn, bug bites, bumps and bruises and all the other common injuries associated with a warmer weather is to have a summer survival kit.  The kit can include:   Hydrocortisone Cream- to relieve stings, bites and itchy rashes.  Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen- for pain relief.  Allergy medications- If you are outside a lot in the summer, there are plenty of things to kick the allergies into high gear. Bandages and antibiotic cream- for cuts and scrapes.  Sunscreen and aloe cream- sunscreen of 15-SPF or higher is recommended to prevent sunburn and Aloe cream will help ease the pain and re-hydrate your skin if you do get sunburn.  Insect repellant-5 to 7 percent DEET for children and 10-30% DEET for adults.
