Elkin Having Community Forum on Opioids

With an uptick in Emergency Room visits related to drugs, the Elkin Community is planning a meeting on the opioid epidemic. The Community Forum will be Tuesday, October 16, 7 to 8 a.m. at the Elkin Center of Surry Community College.  It is sponsored by the Yadkin Valley Rotary Club. The one-hour program will highlight the epidemic in the local community and feature four speakers.  The purpose is to bring facts out into the open concerning opioids.  According to recent statistics, Surry County was Number 1 in the State in April for opioid emergency room visits per capita. Surry County’s hospital ER's have treated over 480 overdoses just since the first of this year.  Wilkes County held a community forum on Opioids earlier this year.
