Coffee House Employee Accused of Stealing $240

Wilkesboro Police are looking for a former waitress at the Coffee House who disappeared along with a couple of hundred dollars this weekend. Coworkers say less than an hour after 25-year old Melissa Ann Brown came to work Friday night, she told them she was going to make a drop -- put excess 20-dollar bills from the cash register into the store safe as a robbery-prevention effort. Fifteen minutes later, she was nowhere to be found. Two co-workers searched the store and the parking lot, and found that her car was also gone, at whiz time they called the store manager. When he went through the day's cash receipts, eh found only one envelope dropped during third shift -- the one put there by Brown, which had one 20-dollar bill in it. The manager says Brown made off with 240-dollars. The address she had on file with the store was no longer accurate, and police are still trying to locate her. She faces a possible charge of theft.
