School Report Cards Available

The state Department of Public Instruction is providing parents with a report card that grades schools and districts across the state. The report cards provide information on test results, classroom sizes, the quality of teachers and school safety. Parents can compare the schools of their children with those around the state. State education officials have been providing the reports since 2001.

Parents can search the reports at www.ncreportcards.org .

As an example of some of the information available, North Wilkes High School out-performs state averages for the ABCs end-of-course tests in Bilogy and US History, but lags the state averages in all other tested subjects. Less than half the kids who took the end-of-course test in Algebra 1 were deemed at grade level. The most recent numbers available are for the 2006-07 school year.
