Thought Police Coming?

Is a Hate Crimes Bill that passed the U-S House yesterday a step toward Big Brother? Fifth District Congresswoman Virginia Foxx says it's more than a step -- the bill would go so far as to regulate thought. The House Rules Committee agreed with Foxx's characterization of the bill, saying it its report to the House, "The majority's rush to judgment ensures that, even if enacted, the hate crimes statute will be overturned by the courts. That will undermine its stated goal of assisting state and local law enforcement to reduce bias-motivated violence." Representative Foxx voted against the bill when it came to the House floor yesterday.
