Man Dies, Bacterial Meningitis Suspected

A young Wilkes county man has died from a possible case of bacterial meningitis. Family members say 26-year old Jason Crews came down with a major illness quickly Thursday night, and had to be airlifted to Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. By the time he got to the hospital, his liver and kidneys were failing, and according to his wife, he was already too weak to undergo dialysis. He died Friday. It will be some time before an autopsy confirms whether the massive infection was in fact bacterial meningitis. Services for Jason Crews are being handled by Reins-Sturdivant. His family will receive visitors tonight at the funeral home, and a graveside service is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at New Hope Baptist Church.
