Bike Rodeo in Wilkes

Safe Kids Wilkes County will hold the 10th Annual Seth Teague Bicycle Rodeo and Safety Day on Saturday May 5, 2012 at 10am. This is an annual event where Safe Kids Wilkes County distribute free bicycle helmets to kids from Wilkes and surrounding counties. They have displays of fire, police, and other emergency vehicles along with lots of fun and games for the children. The “rodeo” consist of a bicycle safety course where kids ride their bikes through a different course guided by local law enforcement officers. This event began after the tragic death of Seth Teague a young man who was killed in a bicycle accident while wearing a helmet. Seth was an active proponent of wearing safety gear, even giving classroom reports to his peers on the use and benefits of safety gear when riding. This being the 10th event we are planning lots of extra games and activities. We also expect our largest crowd ever. Again the event is Saturday at 1900 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, from 10am till 3pm.
