NC Gravity Games

Google and Appalachian State University (ASU) co-hosted the Second Annual North Carolina Gravity Games Soapbox Races over the weekend in downtown Lenoir. Hundreds lined Ashe Avenue to support more than 20 teams that competed for prizes. There were two divisions: Gravity Only and Open Powered. Participants were 10 to 18 years old. Forest Hill Elementary School in Morganton won first place in the Gravity-Only division, beating 19 other teams. Bruce Jones from Charlotte won first place in the Open-Powered division, beating four other teams. The North Carolina Gravity Games is an educational, hands-on activity, which highlights the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a way that is fun for young people and gets them excited about science. The 2013 North Carolina Gravity Games will be held on April 13 in downtown Lenoir.
