Former Wilkes Chief Dies

A graveside service was held yesterday for William Edgar Harris at Mountain Park Cementery. Better known as Edgar, Mr. Harris was a firefighter in Wilkesboro and later became assistant fire chief and chief in Wilkesboro. After relocating to North Wilkesboro, he served as assistant fire chief and then served as chief. He was the only person to serve as fire chief for both the towns of Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro.
