Wilkes EMS -- Prevention Is Key in Hot Weather

Wilkes EMS says during the hot summer days: Prevention is the key, so stay cool and hydrated. Limit outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours, and seek air-conditioned spaces. Drink plenty of water, wear light-colored clothing, and watch for signs of heat-related illnesses. Check on the elderly and children, and never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle. With heat related emergencies, people may experience: fatigue, flushing, thirst, excess sweating, fainting, inability to sweat, lightheadedness, low blood pressure, muscle spasms, nausea or vomiting, disorientation, and fast breathing or shallow breathing. If suffering from a heat emergency, please call 911 immediately.
