Congresswoman Foxx on the Occupy Protests

It started out as an “Occupy Wall Street” protest that has spread to many cities across the country including some protests here in North Carolina.  At times there have been clashes with police and varying reports as to what the protestors are trying to do.  3WC asked Congresswoman Foxx recently if she knew what the “Occupy Protests” are all about.  The Congresswoman said due to conflicting comments from protestors, it is hard to determine exactly what they want to accomplish.  And Foxx says some of the protestors are admitted Marxist who prefer communism over our own capitalism.  My complete interview with Congresswoman Foxx can be heard as a Focus on the Foothills podcast on our website:  www.hometownchristianradio.com

Don't Swerve

More wrecks involving deer including one in Wilkesboro this week on Hwy 421 at Hwy 16 reminds us that deer in the highway is a real problem this time of year.  In the early Wednesday morning wreck on Hwy 421, the driver of the car stated that a deer ran out in front of him and he was unable to avoid hitting it.  According to the highway patrol, it is better to hit the deer than to swerve to avoid it.  Trooper Lane McNeill of the NC Highway Patrol explains that when drivers swerve they lose control of their vehicle and can get hurt or even killed in a wreck.

Stolen Gate

OK.  They stole a gate.  Did they want to sell it for scrap metal or did they just need a gate?  In either case, a Sampson Road property owner reported the theft this week to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department.  The victim said the 12-foot gate to his property had been taken down and carried off.  The victim says his neighbor looks after the property for him but didn’t see anyone there when the gate was stolen.  The property owner will be replacing the stolen gate valued at 100 dollars.  There are no suspects.

Camera Stolen From Car

It’s a pity there was no surveillance video available to get a snap shot of the thief who stole a camera from a car in Wilkesboro.  Police were called to the apartments on Collegiate Drive.  A woman from Jonesville had been visiting her son when the theft occurred.  While her car was parked outside the apartment, someone stole a Nikon Camera with tripod, lens, and camera bag along with a book and cover from inside her Honda CRV.  The car had been left unlocked.  Stolen property was valued over 900 dollars.

Police were also called concerning a leaf blower being stolen from a car.  In that report, the victim said that he parked his vehicle in the county parking lot at the corner of North and Bridge Streets in Wilkesboro.  He left the vehicle parked there overnight and could not remember if he locked it or not.  According to the police report that was no signs of forced entry.  While the vehicle was parked in downtown Wilkesboro, someone stole the leafblower from the front passenger’s seat.  The orange and white Echo blower with strap is valued at 550 dollars.  There were no witnesses and are no suspects at this time in either of these larcenies from vehicles.  Wilkesboro Police are investigating.
